BS 11200:2014 Crisis Management – Guidance and Good Practice was published in May 2014, and details best practice for a crisis management response. The standard is a useful single source for crisis management guidance, and replaces PAS 200, which has now been withdrawn.
This standard defines crisis as an ’abnormal and unstable situation that threatens the organisation’s strategic objectives, reputation or viability’, and summarises the key distinctions that make a crisis, as well as suggesting some potential origins and implications. BS 11200 then makes some recommendations for successful crisis management.
Guidance is provided for building a crisis management capability, and also covers aspects such as crisis leadership; decision-making; crisis communications; and training & exercising.
