As is customary during Business Continuity Awareness Week, the Chartered Management Institute has published its annual survey of Business Continuity Management. Findings from this year’s survey include:
- The proportion of organisations claiming to have a BCM plan is up to 58% (having been stuck at around 50% for the last 10 years);
- 84% of respondents whose organisations activated their BCM plans in the last 12 months agree that it effectively reduced disruption;
- Only half of those organisations with BCM in place have plans for handling the media; and
- Only half of those organisations with BCM in place exercise their plans at least annually.
So, whilst the increasing number of organisations adopting BCM is very good news, it appears that there is still work to be done on the content of plans and on ensuring that they are exercised regularly.
