ISO 22301
In November 2010 the International Standards Organisation released Draft International Standard ISO/DIS 22301: Societal Security – Preparedness and Continuity Management Systems – Requirements. Like BS25999-2(2007), this is intended to be a specification against which organisations can be certified.
ISO/DIS 22301 adopts the same ‘Plan-Do-Check-Act’ cycle as BS25999 (and many other Management Systems). However, it is important to note that it also draws on a number of other national standards and some of the terminology used is different to the British Standard.
ISO/DIS 22301Â was approved in November 2011 and will become a Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) in December. Â The FDIS will then be circulated to all ISO member bodies who will vote whether or not to approve it in early 2012. Â If it receives the required two thirds majority, it is expected that the standard will finally be released in April or May 2012.
